Chillán is a pretty little city, but we haven’t had a lot of luck with the touristy sites. The O’Higgins park/museum was closed for renovations as was a school with Mexican murals. We traveled to the nearby town of San Carlos where folk artist Violeta Parra is from. Since she’s quite famous, we were surprised that there isn’t a museum or other monument in town. We did wander around Chillán’s market, hit a vegetarian restaurant (!), and went to see Wolverine. At this point our energy (and budget) for tourism are running low, and we’re getting anxious to settle in and start looking for work.

Tomorrow we travel by train to Santiago, where we’ll visit friends, collect the rest of our things (yay, laptops and a different pair of pants!) and begin the journey to Buenos Aires, stopping in Mendoza on the way.

Chillán's colorful market occupies a whole city block and then some.

This was Violeta Parra's house. No museum, no plaque, but the neighbors will point it out if you ask.
